Hi everyone,

Just want to know how to block Gmail and still allow google? Thank you.

  • Hi John,

Simply add the URLS associated with Gmail under the block these websites section in the filter action. Also, have decrypt and scan enable in the filter policy.

You can add: accounts.google.com, gmail.com, mail.google.com. I think that will suffice the requirement.

    Thanks

  • Hi Mr. sachingurung,

I tried your suggestions but it still doesn't seem to work. Am I missing something? Just let me know.

    Thank you

       .

  • Hi John,

Clear web history on the web browser and restart http proxy; take SSH to UTM and execute: /var/mdw/scripts/httpproxy restart

Also, if decrypt and scan option is configured for Web Mail category then you do not need to specify the URL in the block these websites section in filter action.

    Thanks

  • Gmail users can now block specific email addresses with just two clicks. In the top right hand corner of a message, click the drop-down menu button (upside down triangle), and select "block."

  • You did not indicate whether you are trying to block users from accessing the GMAIL website, or whether you are trying to block incoming email from user@gmail.com.

I will assume, like SachinGuring, that you want to block access to the gmail website.

I think there is an easier solution than the one he gave you:

Web Protection... Application Control...Application Control Rules (tab)... New Rule

Action = Block,   Control By = Applications, Application = gmail, For=<designated user, group, or network object>

However, gmail is probably one of the lower-risk webmail sites, because I trust their spam filtering more than most others.   If you want to block gmail, you might want to consider blocking the entire webfilter category of "Personal email"

Gmail for Business allows connections from Outlook.   You may need to block additional ports, using firewall rules, to defend against that possibility.
