9.713 - AP30 WiFi crashing frequently?

Hi, I recently added an AP30 rev2 to my home, on WiFi channel 1.

My pre-existing AP50 is on channel 11, and I moved it to the far end of the house. (I'm going to unplug it also and move the AP30 to channel 11 to rule out all interference.)

Since adding the AP30, multiple clients (3 phones, 2 tablets) are frequently getting disconnected at the same time.

I suspect the AP30 may be crashing/rebooting.

What should I look for in the wireless.log to check for possible crashes?

Thanks!
Barry

  • Hi Barry,

Good day and thanks for reaching out to Sophos Community and hope you are well.

So to confirm the issue just started after adding AP30 to the setup?

To add to what Erick is looking for, you may try to use command on shell cd /log then tail -f awed.log

Additionally, would like to check if your channel selection in UTM configured as Auto? If access points start at the same time they may end up on the same channel and would probably lead to service disruption.

Kindly let us know. Many thanks for your time and patience and thank you for choosing Sophos

  • Hi, yes it started after adding the AP30.

I have (temporarily) unplugged the AP50 from my network, and tried moving the AP30 to Channel 11 (which is what the AP50 has been on. There is nothing else nearby on Channel 11.)

    There's no /log folder, and I don't see awed.log in /var/log

    fw:/var/log # pwd
    /var/log
    fw:/var/log # ls *.log
    afc.log ipsec.log packetfilter.log vmware-vmsvc.2.log
    aptp.log ips.log rasupdate.log vmware-vmsvc.3.log
    aua.log kernel.log reverseproxy.log vmware-vmsvc.4.log
    boot.log logging.log selfmon.log vmware-vmsvc.5.log
    confd-debug.log login.log service_monitor.log vmware-vmsvc.6.log
    confd.log mdw-debug.log smtp.log vmware-vmsvc.7.log
    dhcpd.log mdw.log sshd.log vmware-vmsvc.8.log
    fallback.log mg-agent.log system.log vmware-vmsvc.9.log
    httpd.log named.log up2date.log vmware-vmsvc.log
    http.log notifier.log vmware-vmsvc.10.log webadmin.log
    identd.log openvpn.log vmware-vmsvc.1.log wireless.log

    Where can I find awed.log?

Anything I can look for in wireless.log?

How do I confirm the firmware version of the AP30?

    Thanks,
    Barry

  • The wireless log is VERY chatty so I really need to know what to look for.

Or somewhere I can upload the full log file (yesterday's was 7MB).

    Thanks
