Internet access blocked due to Sophos.

I have faced an issue with Sophos Endpoint Security Control (Version: 10.3.10) where my internet access to the browsers was blocked. Is there a way to resolve this issue other than disabling the Firewall settings or Web Protection.

Thanks

Rajesh Nair

  • Hello Rajesh Nair,

    [SESC] Version: 10.3.10
indeed? On Windows? If so this version is pretty outdated. And is indeed the Client Firewall installed?

    • This is happening on windows 10 64 bit machine. Do we have an option to prevent this from happening?

      • Hello r nair,

        to prevent this
as said, the primary question is which product and version this is. Sorry for the ters question On Windows? I meant Is this indeed Sophos Endpoint Security and Control managed by SEC, the Sophos Enterprise Console? In this case 10.3.10 would be very old - the current version is 10.8.2 and the oldest supported available 10.7.6.
And as you said other than disabling the Firewall settings or Web Protection I asked whether you're indeed using SCF.

        Christian

          • This is the one am using now.

            • Hello r nair,

              thanks.
Now, the Firewall log should tell if it's SCF that is blocking your browsers - neither Web Protection nor Web Control should generally block Internet access.

More important, indeed your installation is out of date. 10.3 is no longer supported. The windows 10 64 bit machine is likely the one running VirtualBox, the screenshot shows a Win7 (saying it's not genuine, BTW) though. So - do you have this issue on the Win7 with the outdated SESC (I see the installer on the desktop), on Win10, or on both?

              Christian

              • I have the same issue on Windows 10 as well as the windows 7 (VM) which you can see on the screenshot.

Can I have the link for the latest SCF, so that I can test it out with the latest one? That will be more convenient for me because the one am using now is an outdated one.

Please send me the link for the latest SCF and I look forward to testing it out.

                Thanks

                • Hello r nair,

the link for the latest SCF
there is no link as SCF is (an optional) part of SESC. SCF can only be updated when SESC is also updated.

                  [SCF] is an outdated one
I don't think so. SCF is stable, it was already on 2.9.5/3.0.4 (-Win7/Win8+ respectively) with SESC 10.3.15. Can't say which versions are in 10.3.10 but it shouldn't be too hard to find out.

The question is, why is your SESC installation outdated? It should now be 10.8.2. - why doesn't it update?

                  Christian

                      • Hello r nair,

apparently it's a stand-alone installation (the installer package on the desktop suggested this anyway).
The details of the download error should be in the ALUpdate2018MMDDThhmmss......log in C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\Logs.
