  • Hello Han

The fresh installer package can be downloaded on your managed Sophos central account. You may ask your administrator who manages your Sophos central to ask for it. Using a different package outside of your central account may lead to another issue.

  • Could I make a plea that the "SophosSetup" changes name - so it's obvious when there's a new/updated version. "SophosSetup02022024" etc... would help so much if we knew which version we're running/downloading?

  • The file you download from Sophos Central is known as the stage 1 installer and is very lightweight.  It's only real job is to pull down the stage 2 part of the installer which is the part more frequently updated.

You can name SophosSetup.exe anything you like if you want to version it and it's very rare for an older version to be a problem as it primarily just pulls down the hosted stage 2.

If there are new command line switches added or it is re-signed, then it is perhaps more important to get the latest if you need the new switches it passes through to stage 2.

The file is an unauthenticated link unique to the account, so it maybe that any deployment scripts can just pull the latest file. E.g. as a PS command:

    iwr "https://dzr-api-amzn-eu-west-1-9af7.api-upe.p.hmr.sophos.com/api/download/[unique]/SophosSetup.exe" -outfile SophosSetup.exe

    I hope that helps.

  • thank you very much, now i got the newest version of sophos V1.19 from my IT manager, the problem is solved.  :)

  • Hi all,

I have been following this issue for the last week. I have checked the installer and confirmed that i used the latest version installed but i still have the ERROR : Exception: Failed to verify package manifest, error code 7. Could someone please give me some advice? :)

  • Hi ,

    Good day.

Firstly, make sure you have downloaded the latest setup file version [v1.19] directly from the central account.

To isolate the root cause of the issue, is it possible to try the testing steps below?

    • Download a new installer from central in any other test devices, run that installer, and check the issue.
    • Download a new installer into this device from any other central account and try the installation.

For your information, this release brings two new FATAL pre-checks:

    1. On Windows search, open Local security policy or on Run, type secpol.msc, and then press ENTER.
    2. Under Security Settings, Select Local Policies and then User Rights Assignment.
    3. Check if the User Rights Assignment settings below are assigned to the administrator.

      SeShutdownPrivilege: Shut down the system
      SeBackupPrivilege: Backup files and directories
      SeRestorePrivilege: Restore files and directories
SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege: Take ownership of files or other objects
SeSecurityPrivilege: Manage auditing and security log

If not done, you can assign them and then try to open the setup file as administrator and install it again.
