Fatal Error: The main data file is missing

I could not resume my Mac laptop after sleeping and had to force a shutdown. The Sophos icon on the menu bar is now greyed out. The Sophos log keeps repeating the following:

com.sophos.intercheck: Info: ic_worker_start: kext already loaded at 20:47 on 27 October 2014
com.sophos.intercheck:
com.sophos.intercheck: Fatal Error: The main virus data file is missing
com.sophos.intercheck: Sophos Anti-Virus cannot continue
com.sophos.intercheck:

Does anyone from Sophos want more information before I remove and restore the program?

Looks like the engine is missing one or more files to complete an update. Therefore can you run the command (in point two) from the thread below and post back the result?

OS Yosemite (no previous probs - 3 months), SAV Home v 5.1, Update 9.2.2. (also no prior probs). Last Auto Update Jan 06 2015 ~ no probs noted but no further daily Auto Updates. Just run Manual Update. after onscreen pop-up "Sophos not Running" message. Logs show "Manual Update failed" and Main Data File missing, viz
Info: ic_worker_start: kext not found, attempting to load at 19:13 on 24 January 2015
com.sophos.intercheck:
com.sophos.intercheck: Fatal Error: The main virus data file is missing
com.sophos.intercheck: Sophos Anti-Virus cannot continue
com.sophos.intercheck:

Any help much appreciated (Should I delete then relaod Sophos?).

UPDATE:
Ruckus' recommendation (as in Point 2) above worked 100% - prob solved. Shout out to Ruckus!!!
