wiring of laptop used for XG firewall Home Edition

Okay this is a simple question, or at least I think it is.

How do I plug in the laptop I am using for this software? Do i put the laptop between my cable modem and my router? In the e-mail that I got with my serial number it says:

  1. Connect the WAN interface (port 2) on the device to your internet connection.
  2. Connect a computer to the LAN interface (port 1)

I think this is written for people who have a firewall appliance which is not my case I am using a laptop.

Thank you for your help.

I now know I need to plug one of my network interfaces into my cable modem and the other network interface into my wireless router (switch).

The only problem is the laptop only has one hardwired network interface. So I purchased a USB to network interface adapter. The problem is that the XG Firewall software (OS) does not see the adapter and goes to Failsave Mode when booted up. I have a CD that came with the adapter that has the drivers on it, how do I load the drivers so I can use the adapter as my second network interface?

I am a bit familiar with Linux as I was a UNIX admin at the time I retired. I have tried to find the /dev file for the cdrom so I could mount it but nothing in /dev looks to be a cdrom drive.

Side note: I know the adapter I bought works for I have plugged it into my windows and Linux laptops and it works just fine.
