I can not activate the on-access scanning.

Here is how I installed sophos:

Where do you want to install Sophos Anti-Virus? [/opt/sophos-av]

Sophos recommends that you configure Sophos Anti-Virus to auto-update.
It can update either from Sophos directly (requiring username/password details) or from your own server (directory or website (possibly requiring username/password)).
Which type of auto-updating do you want? From Sophos(s)/From own server(o)/None(n) [s]

Updating directly from Sophos.
Do you wish to install the Free (f) or Supported (s) version of SAV for Linux? [s]
> f
The Free version of Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux comes with no support.
Forums are available for our free tools at http://openforum.sophos.com/
Do you need a proxy to access Sophos updates? Yes(Y)/No(N)

Fetching free update credentials.
Installing Sophos Anti-Virus....
Selecting appropriate kernel support...
When Sophos Anti-Virus starts, it updates itself to try to find a Sophos kernel interface module update.
This might cause a significant delay.
Sophos Anti-Virus starts after installation.
Installation completed.

  • root@debian:/opt/sophos-av/bin# ./savdstatus
    Sophos Anti-Virus is active

    My friends gets:

root@debian:/opt/sophos-av/bin# ./savdstatus Sophos Anti-Virus is active and on-access scanning is running
  • Hello Mickael Caramel,

what was next after Installation completed?
It should either download Talpa binaries for your kernel (which version?) or attempt to compile it, if successful it says:
NOTE: You are running Sophos Anti-Virus on a kernel for which Sophos does not provide binary kernel
modules. Therefore the kernel modules have been locally compiled. Please see KBA14377 for supported
    platforms and kernels.

What is the response to /opt/sophos-av/bin/savdctl enable?

    Christian

  • Hi Mickael,

    Please check

Check that on-access scanning will be started automatically on boot To perform this procedure, you must be logged on to the computer as root.

    1. Check that savd will be started automatically on system boot: chkconfig --list Note: If this command does not work on your Linux distribution, use the appropriate utility to display services that are configured to start on system boot. If the list contains an entry for sav-protect with 2:on, 3:on, 4:on and 5:on, on-access scanning will be started automatically on system boot. Otherwise, type: /opt/sophos-av/bin/savdctl enableOnBoot savd

    2. Check that on-access scanning will be started automatically with savd: /opt/sophos-av/bin/savconfig query EnableOnStart If the command returns true, on-access scanning will be started automatically with savd on system boot. Otherwise, type: /opt/sophos-av/bin/savconfig set EnableOnStart true 3.3 Start on-access scanning To start on-access scanning, do one of the following: ■ Type: /opt/sophos-av/bin/savdctl enable ■ Use the appropriate tool to start the installed service sav-protect. For example, type: /etc/init.d/sav-protect start
