Error 00000057 I can't get past

When trying to encrypt a client from the console, I get the 00000057 error. I've read the knowledgebase and checked program files and the registry. Both contain nothing from the encryption client (only a icon file in program files).

I've re-imaged the laptop, but still I get the same error. Is there something else I can try? This laptop really needs encryption! ;)

  • Hello BenjaminR,

    only an icon file

where, in the \SafeGuard Enterprise folder? You should remove the folders, not just empty them. But anyway ...

    I've re-imaged the laptop

and then not even the icon should be there. So you re-imaged the endpoint, protected it with AV and then tried to deploy Encryption? Was the 00000057 present in the console all the time or has it been cleared at some point and later reappeared? Any logs on the endpoint (don't ask me where they should be - it's a long time since I've worked with the integrated FDE) - which, BTW, is Windows 7 I assume?

  • Hi Christian,

Thanks for the reply! Let my clarrify, the \Safeguard Enterprise\ folder is not present in the image, nor is any other Sophos product/folder. Everytime I re-image the laptop, first I install Endpoint protection through the console and then I try to install Safeguard. At first I will get an 00000052 error stating the laptop needs to restart. Sometimes I get the error that another installer is already running. Anyway, after a restart and retry of installing Safeguard, I get the 00000057 error again.

The laptop is running Windows 7 Pro.

    -edit-

I've tried to install Safeguard locally, but then I get an 5017 error ("Incompatible hardware configuration detected"). Is there a specfic bios configuration I need to know about? This is the first Dell E5450 were are trying to use with Safeguard. :smileywink:

    -edit2-

I found an excel sheet that states the E5450 is not supported: http://sophserv.sophos.com/repo_kb/107785/file/107785_SGN%20tested%20hardware%20overview.xls . Is this something Sophos is working on, or is this laptop 'doomed' forever?

  • Hello, Ive found this problem with a few of our end users computers. this error happens when there are still pending updates or drivers are needed to be updated. Install all the drivers in the Cabs Dell provide then run this program that find any you miss: www.dell.com/.../SLN85571 . Once done that make sure all windows updates are done and thn run the encryption. This solved the issue for me.
