AP30 melted.

Just a warning.  Noted on the UTM that one of our WiFi units wasn't responding.

Went to inspect it, no lights.  Removed it and the plastic in the center was dark and it was extremely hot to touch.  Plastic had caramelized.

Probably a fire hazard.  Getting it replaced.

Cheers.

  • Sorry, I tossed it already [:(]

    (Replacement ordered through Red 11).

I did take it apart and the heat source was the main large square chip, (which appears to have a tiny heat sink attached to it, (or a block of something in any case).

We were running it via PoE.  Sorry I didn't keep it now...

  • What was the device providing the POE power?  Perhaps they negotiated the wrong power level, or there was a surge, or the POE port on the POE-injecting device or switch is bad... could be the AP too, of course.  More info would help.

  • Same issue here!

Plastic on rear (over a heat sink?) melted and the unit stopped working.

Was not in a warm environment and using original adapters.

    Little bit of a concern...
