Do AP's function if connection is lost?

IF

you have an Access Point at a remote site over a RED or VPN (using the 1.2.3.4 route)
managed by the UTM at the main site
and you are using SSIDs or zones that Bridge to LAN or Bridge to VLAN (meaning they don't need to tunnel through the UTM),

THEN

will they still continue to function independently even if connection to the UTM is lost?

  • No, I believe that the access points will stop functioning once connection to the UTM is lost.

  • If an AP is bridged to the LAN, then traffic to another device on the LAN doesn't go back to the UTM, so I think that it will work.  What I don't know is whether the AP checks for updates and might hang if the connection is down.
