User activity reporting on duration of site vists

Ive been told that Sophos Web Filtering doesnt show the length of time a user has been on a url. So for example if a user had been at a site that we arent blocking but say a manager feels they are spending too long on the site then we dont have a report to prove this, we wouldnt beable to tell how long a user was on that site. If the user went onto the site for a few mins and that was it then it then a report would only show them being on the site for a few mins and it would be a legitimate. However, if the manager feels that they were on the site for say 2 hours per day, you would need to beable to prove that with raw data.. However, currently Sophos Web Filtering doesnt have this functionality to report on how long a user has been on a specific site. This could be a significant issue should a user be challenged about how long they are spending on a particular site. How do you prove this without a report to show how long the user was ion the site?

Sophos support have said they currently dont offer this function but have suggested that I put something on the forums that could perhaps trigger a development request should other sophos web filtering users out there feel something like this would benefit them as well. So this is what Im doing

  • Awrite!  Welcome to the UTM Community, Derek!

You can feed the file into an external tool and craft complex questions that aren't a part of UTM's reporting.  Or, maybe export the data and use a spreadsheet.  I would use grep, uniq and sort at the command line to find this out if it was only several times a year to run the scan people not adhering to company policy.  If your company doesn't want to invest in the first suggestion, the spreadsheet solution is probably the easiest unless you have a good 'nix person.
