Amazon Instant Video Issues

I have Sophos UTM 9.351-3 running and everything is working great.  I am having issues with Amazon Instant Video.  It will play movies but the picture is really pixilated and buffers from time to time stating there is not enough bandwidth to play movie.  I have web filtering turned off and also IPS turned off.  I see nothing in the logs on what is causing this.  All other streaming services play just fine.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

  • Hi, I have got something strange in my setup too. As soon as I am starting a video on my Amazon stick the incoming bandwidth of my VDSL2-modem (fritzbox by AVM) is climbing up to 40 Mbit/s and the data partition of my UTM is filling up up to 100%. The data stream seems to stop at the WAN interface of the UTM - I can not see the stream going out on the LAN port. Restarting the UTM stops this behavior and cleans up the data partion again. The stick tells me there is a slow internet connection. This behavior is not beeing seen on the VDSL modem when the Amazon stick is using a WLAN which comes from the VDSL router (instead of a WLAN from a second WLAN-Router behind the UTM). This is my envoronment: VDSL router (fritzbox by AVM) to the internet (90Mbit/s down, 38 Mbit upstream), UTM in transparent mode (version 9.408-4), switch to the LAN (including a separtae WLAN-Accesspoint by Netgear). Web filtering is turned ON. Any ideas ?

  • Hi, Guido, and welcome to the UTM Community!

What happens if you disable caching?  Do you have 'Bypass content scanning for streaming content' selected n the 'Advanced' tab?

  • Most likely skipping netflix domains from SSL scanning helps. I've created a URL Group Amazon containing following domain: amazon.com and placed that URL Group under "Protection > Web Protection > Web Content Filter" under "HTTPS Scanning Exceptions".

  • Hi Willie,

I am new to Sophos UTM 9 and facing the same problem with amazon prime video-streams.

My problem is that I can not follow your description on how to do this !?

I am running Firmware 9.409-9 with actual pattern as Private-Version.

Hope you can help me on how to create a URL Group - can not find anything useful in the documentation about it.

    Thanks!!

  • Hi, and welcome to the UTM Community!

I'm sure he meant using REGEX.  Start the Web Filtering Live log, wait for it to start displaying lines and then show us less than ten lines related to the block you're experiencing.

    Cheers - Bob
