RED 50, using 2 WANs and the 3G Backup possible?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about using a RED 50, first WAN is a SDSL connection, second WAN a cheap ADSL backup. Is it possible to use the USB port with a 3G stick as a third backup or are there only two connections possible? Theres no documentation around and in the screenshots I only see two interfaces to configure.

Thanks!

  • Hi Michael,

Yes, this is possible. You can configure two Hostnames/Wan link on UTM to support RED. PFA screen shot:

Interestingly, you can also Load Balance the traffic load on both the WAN links.

    Here,

UTM hostname: You need to enter a public IP address or hostname where the UTM is accessible.

2nd UTM hostname (only with RED 15 and RED 50): You can enter another public IP address or hostname of the same UTM. Note that you cannot enter the IP or hostname of a different UTM.

Use 2nd hostname for (only with RED 15 and RED 50, see images below): You can configure what the second hostname should be used for.

Failover: Select to only use the second hostname in case the first hostname fails.

Balancing: Select to activate active load balancing between both hostnames. This makes sense if both uplinks the first and the second hostname correlate to, are equal in latency and throughput.

Uplink mode/2nd uplink mode: You can define how the RED appliance receives an IP address, which can be either via DHCP or by directly assigning a static IP address. For RED 50 appliances you define the uplink mode for each RED uplink Ethernet port separately.

    Hope that helps :)

    Thanks
