hmm, the question is: what kind of failover setup are you looking for exactly? do you want to have a failover mechanism ... ... for the central ASG? ... for the Internet connection at the central ASG? ... for the remote (branch office) Internet link? ... for the RED devices itself? .. or...?
Not sure about the OP but I have a similiar question in regards to what happens if the central ASG lost internet access. Would the remote RED then just use the internet as normal?
My setup main setup hosted in one of the ISP and I am using Astaro Security Gateway 220 in my setup, into one of the branches I have two ADSL lines and I would like to try use RED devices this time, can this devise give me failover mechanism for the Internet connection, the remote (branch office) Internet link? And for RED devices itself?
The way I understand it, if the RED is configured in "Standard/Unified" mode, and the Internet connection to the 220 goes down, there will be no internet connection, but I haven't confirmed that experimentally. If you have a 4G USB device, you can use it as a backup connection for the RED, but that would not change the above if the connection at the host went down.
The RED has a maximum throughput of 30Mbs, but you can use multiple units if you need more.
There's no way to use both ADSL connections with one RED unless you have a load-balancer, so it sounds like you might be better off with a 120 with a Network Protection subscription. You can build a classic IPsec tunnel between the 120 and 220 and use Uplink Balancing for fail-over. The same is possible with a RED tunnel between the two devices.
