About Youtube

Hi guys,

I can't make a good explanation about Youtube on network usage.

Users on green box are the people who can access Youtube.

The red ones are not supposed to access youtube. (I just gave my boss a reason that their bandwidhts are low and maybe, since they have access on yahoo mail,

there might be something there.)

Here are the blockings I made.

And Streaming Media category is not allowed for the user aswell.

Thoughts?

Thank you all.

  • Hi John,

You defined URLs instead of RegEx in the blacklist configuration. Alongside, if Application Protection policy is defined to block YouTube for internal networks then how did you allowed particular user have the access, any exception configured? If yes, please post a screenshot of the exception policy.

Which Web Protection mode is defined on UTM and is it configured to decrypt and scan the traffic?

    Thanks

  • Hi Mr. Sachin,

Yes, I have exception for those who can access Youtube. This exception is on the upper position (2) and the blocking for internal network is positioned below. (See attached)

In web protection, it's just URL filtering, nothing decrypt nor scan.

And about RegEx, I don't know anything about it.

    Thanks Mr.

  • Hi John,

Use Quick RegEx tool available on internet for RegEx translations.

If you define YouTube in the blacklist section then it will effect all the Users associated to the filter policy. Hence, create a separate filter profile to block the Users from going to YouTube. Remember to place the profile on the TOP.

Decrypt and Scan is mandatory, select it in the filter profile to block YouTube. You need to install UTM's CA on the endpoints after applying decrypt and scan to avoid SSL CA errors.

  • Hi Mr. Sachirun

I've found a RegEx translator and I hope it gave the right expression. Also placed the selected profiles on top.

About the "Decrypt and Scan is mandatory, select it in the filter profile to block YouTube. ", it's a bit hard to understand since all I see

    are categories and not sites.

    Anyway, thanks Mr. Sachirun! :)
