Pressing reconnect on second PPPOE Line (ppp1) resets first interface (ppp0)

SG 125 Version 9.405-5

Hi,

I have 2 VDSL lines on each of my SG-125's in different locations on all the following happens:

When I'm pressing reconnect on a second pppoe interface (PPP1) it drops and reconnects my first pppoe interface (PPP0) !

It is not very helpfull since it drops all connections like vpns etc.

Woulld be great if sophos could fix this. as well as my "old" problem that vpn's do not reconnect after a drop of the pppoe connections ..

because together, these 2 problems make the SG's quite unusable for us .

regards

Helmut

  • Hi Bob,

unfortunately nothing. For them the case is closed.

    Cheers

  • Sometimes, one needs to re-submit under the same case number or open a new case citing the old case number.  At the very least, I would have expected them to suggest restoring a config backup from before the last time you applied Up2Dates.  If that doesn't help you, make sure you're deep in backups and re-image from ISO.  If restoring to "new" firmware doesn't resolve this, then I would pester Sophos Support to send you a replacement unit.

  • Bob,

I had the system running in a virtual instance on a Citrix Xenserver, . The Error occures since version 8!!!
Since noone at sophos reacted on that problem and i did not have to much confidence in the Broadcom Nics in my DELL Server,

I did purchase a brand new SG-125 did a restore form a backup ... and here we are , nothing changed. Different hard- and firmware !

    ( I also replaced the vdsl modems ... )

It won't help to replace again anything since i know what the problem is, but noone listens  ...
Noone tested the firmware with 2 pppoe interfaces from the german Telekom that disconnect/reconnect AND ipsec vpns on the 2nd pppoe Interface.
It works absolute fine for the first connect but not after a reconnect, it works with the first pppoe interface disconnecting/reconnecting but it does not for pppoe > 0

It is quite clear that it is a firmware bug since after a reboot everything is fine until the next reboot.

BTW: my real problem is that the VPNs bound to the second interface won't come up again

  • Helmut, why do you need to trigger a manual reconnect?

What about a cronjob that triggers this every morning at 3AM and then follows with a reboot?  Or, have you tried a disable/enable toggle of the Interface in WebAdmin to re-establish the VPNs?  Or, have you tried disable/enable of the IPsec Connections to do that?

Have you tried #7.7 in Rulz?

    Cheers - Bob
