ATT U-Verse and Astaro

I just got ATT-Uverse in my house and I can't get the security gateway machine to connect with the ATT modem (external network card.)  Does anyone know what protocol I am suppose to use to configure my external card to get a line and link up status?

Thanks.

  • Do the lights on the NIC come on? If not, try a crossover cable.

I've read a bit about Verizon FIOS which may be similar, and for that it's recommended that the FIOS adapter be bridged if not using TV and Phone services.
There's lots of info on the internets.

  • Any other thoughts on how to get Astaro set up with AT&T U-verse?  I'm new to Astaro and I'm also trying to set it up with U-verse.  One thing somewhat unique to U-verse is that it uses a 2WIRE Residential Gateway (RG).  The RG is the modem and router built into one device.  There is some configuration options available for firewall settings, etc., within the RG, but it is limited in comparison to a stand-alone router.
  • Can you bridge the 2wire?

  • All the 2wire routers I've seen that are using DSL support bridged mode, but it's in a hidden menu... try searching dslreports.com... that's where I found the info on the hidden menu for one customer's 2wire router (they are on AT&T DSL).

  • Thanks for you replies.  I checked the DSL Reports link you provided and tried to follow the instructions to disable routing.  I was able to get into the configuration, but my 2Wire Residential Gateway does not seem to offer the settings as described.

Since the 2Wire is handling IP-TV and VOIP, I'm thinking it is not possible.  I was hoping to somehow re-route all HTTP/HTTPS traffic to the Astaro Gateway, but can't seem to find a way to accomplish it.

It's about FIOS, but maybe UVerse uses Moca too?

A friend of a friend is an UVerse installer for AT&T... I'll ask him about it when I see him, but more googling, or posting on the DSLReports forums may be your best bet.

Does the 2wire have any NAT options?
Can you find the manual for it online?

  • You have another alternative; put the Astaro in bridged mode inline between your internal switch / hub and the U-Verse router...

  • Bruce, that may not help if he needs to DNAT incoming traffic. (I'm assuming the 2wire is doing MASQ).

dpulverizer or dman777, did you guys ever get connected at all?
dman777, you were asking about the protocol... it should just be ethernet with DHCP.

  • I'm willing to bet he can gain access to the NAT engine in the 2wire; they seem to be pretty sophisticated.
