Reinstall using bigger drives

Hello all

Is there any way, or option, to specify partition or filesystem size during install?

I noticed that / is allocated with some 5G and is quickly filling up.

My current configuration use two 72G drives mirrored but most space are allocated
to /var/log(30G) but only about 1G is used.

I'm planning to re-install UTM with two 250G drives mirrored but it will be a moot
point if UTM allocates only 5G to /.  It would have been better if they did not use / as
temporary directory for up2date(/var/up2date/sys) files.

Any thoughts or comments is appreciated.

    For those interested, there's a way to adjust the partition or filesystem size by resizing another partition. Using gparted, I was able to reduce /var/log(30G) to 28G. That left a 2G unallocated space I used to resize /.  This can be done with a brief outage, and planning, and it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, depending on your system.

    High level:

    1. Boot the FW using gparted.

    2. Reduce a partition by the amount you want to free-up.

    3. Resize / using the unallocated space.

    4. Reboot the FW.

    5. Check / that it has increased in available space.

     

    Before the resize, / has 5.2G size and /var/log has 30G size. I took 2G from /var/log and add it to /.

    After the resize, / now have 7.2G and /var/log now have 28G space.

     

    My first try to use gparted so I took time to familiarize with the tool. I tested this tool on a standby server and it was relatively simple to use and the result was what I was hoping for. I will resize my prod sometime this weekend. : )

    Thanks for the trick, Javelin.  That could come in handy for some folks.

    In reality, / only gets full when there's a problem, so you might want to see what's in there that shouldn't be.  Failed Up2Date downloads? Or???

    But there is a problem, it's called update 9.4x : )

    And I agree with you, / should not get full because once the update is installed, the file is deleted making sure /var/up2date/sys always have free space for new updates.

    My up2date is set to check every 2 hours. I haven't updated for awhile due to unresolved issues in 9.4x. At the moment, I've set my up2date to manual until I can add more space to /.  I know I can move u2d* files out of /var/up2date/sys to a temporary directory until I need them but sometimes, I missed to do that. I will be increasing / so that it can accommodate more files and not have to mess with moving files around. Besides, /var/log is way too big for my purpose and I'd rather delete log files than missing important updates, or worse, download an incomplete file.

    And while I'm at it, I will also be reducing /var/storage.  core dumps don't need 23G of space : )
