The support, on Sohpos, just ignores queries, or lies about login issues. So ...?

  • Not clear what you mean by "cannot update", so I am guessing.

I think there are some problems with Up2Date that may affect that version.   In this forum, click the KnowledgeBase link, then select UTM9, then search through the entries for the Known Issues List.  Download the pdf and review.  Last time I checked, it was missing entries that I thought should be listed, especially for the newest versions, but 9.411 data may be pretty complete.  Alternatively, search the forum for postings about Up2Date bugs.

Anyway you can download firmware updates from this link, and apply them manually, one at a time.

But the defenses for Wannacry were distributed as signature updates for IPS, not as firmwate changes.   Sophos has had some struggles with embarrassing bugs in recent versions, so I am content on my current version which is a little older than yours.  (I do not recommend updayi6ng to 9.5 at this time.) If you are getting signature updates, you can let go of the panic about Wannacry.

I have never been clear what updating services are included in the free home license.   Most of the value of the product is the internet knowledge database that they have built, even more than the code which utilizes that knowledge, and business users pay dearly to keep that information current.

You need to verify whether the home license includes all if the signature updates for all of the enabled features.  I think itprobably does, but you should be able to verify what is and is not free by using tbe (sales-oriented) chat window on the Sophos website.

Personal support is expensive, especially when you make a complex prodict available to home users.  So you do not get personal support.   But you can find lots of good material here, provided by business users and resellers.

No product is perfect, given that they are built by people like you and me.  Grace, extended to those who are trying hard to defend us against internet bad guys, is always in order, but especially for something that is free.
