Using wireless router and VDSL wireless router with the UTM

Hi,

I am little bit new in UTM and want use/setup Sophos UTM home edition on my network, my configuration is;

1- Just setup a PC with i3-4330, 4GB DDR3 ram, 60GB SSD and HP NC364T 4 port NIC

I have installed sophos UTM Home edition with license and I have;

2- One ADSL/VDSl router with WLan (asus DSL-N17U) for dhcp server and internet/WLan

default gateway 192.168.1.1

3- One router (behind above router) act as AP/Switch (asus RT-AC56U) which has dual WLan for guest network.

So, with this configuration how should I setup Sophos UTM home and cable connections?

Thanks in advance.

DSL-N17U router--->16port switch--->Inernet/LAN--->to other room RT-AC56U WLan router--->internet/LAN/WLan

...then UTM (with 4 port NIC) ?

  • Hi Levent,

    The setup will be simple, use eth1 with Type: Ethernet and select the Dynamic IP option and connect the modem. Connect the Switch on eth0 on LAN, do not check IPv4 Default Gateway option.

    Next, you need a Masquerading rule a Fw-rule to get started. Check out the pocket guides for more information on Sophos UTM.

    Hope that help.

  • Hi Sachin,

    Thank you for your fast reply but as I'm novice user, if I'm not bother you, please could you be more clear about connections and settings;

    e.g. if I connect the eth0 to router/switch, then "use eth1 with Type: Ethernet and select the Dynamic IP option" where the eht1 goes to?

    and should I disable DHCP server on the router side?

    sorry, maybe this is a simple question for you, hope I don't spend your time :)

    Thanks.

  • Hi, Levent, and welcome to the UTM Community!

    You would connect eth1 to your modem.  It's preferred to have the modem in bridge mode so that the UTM gets a public IP on the External interface.

    It's also preferable to have your ASUS AP bridged so that you don't double-NAT the clients.  You will want to create VLAN interfaces on eth0 to keep the Guest wireless separate.
