UPS interface for monitoring power

If I'm correct UTM9 it is built upon a SuSE/OpenSuSE base.

I wanted to try and preform one customization to the build by adding support for my UPS.

The UPS will connect through Serial RS232.
The software is located at:  dl4jz3rbrsfum.cloudfront.net/.../powerpanel-132-0x86_64.rpm
The Install manual is located at:  dl4jz3rbrsfum.cloudfront.net/.../CyberPower_FG_PPL-RPM.pdf
The User manual is located at:  dl4jz3rbrsfum.cloudfront.net/.../CyberPower_UM_PPL.pdf

I have a few questions:
1. When I try to install the software I'm getting dependency errors. The distro doesn't have any kind of automated package manager, only RPM is available.  (See attached picture for dependencies errors and distro/kernel info.)
     a. How can I check to see if any version of the dependencies listed are already installed?  (I need to make sure updating, if existing, won't break anything.)
     b. Where can I download the dependencies it is asking for and the best way to install them?

2. It looks like scripts have to be written for the UPS software to be able to preform actions on the computer. What are your suggestions on how to write these scripts? I'll want it to properly shut the computer down when there is 5 minutes or 7% left on the UPS battery.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Hi, Tony, and welcome to the UTM Community!

    USB-to-RS 232 converters are inexpensive.
