Upgrade from UTM 8 to UTM 9

Hello, we have not upgraded our UTM ASG110 from v8 to v9. Now, we want to update and while upgrading using the menu, Management ->Up2Date->Upgrade to UTM9, it downloads the file however after completion of downloading the file, it displays an error message that the file could not be downloaded. Could anyone suggest any solutions to sort out this issue ? Also I can see that it can be upgraded manually by downloading the ISO file, but I am confused which UTM 9 version to download and install ? We are using ASG 110 v8 and firmware version 8.316.

You can directly reimage v9 into the UTM, refer the guide here. Download the latest firmware here: http://download.astaro.com/UTM/v9/up2date/

NOTE: Take backup of the present configuration on v8.

You can directly reimage v9 into the UTM, refer the guide here. Download the latest firmware here: http://download.astaro.com/UTM/v9/up2date/

NOTE: Take backup of the present configuration on v8.

Thanks for the reply. I have few more queries.

Can we use bootable USB sticks instead of CDROMs and can we directly install latest version i.e. u2d-sys-9.404005-405005.tgz.gpg from UTM 8?

HI,

I have tried with USB, but I am getting error message like "Award Preboot Agent Installation failed" message first and later another message is displayed like

Non System Disk

Press any key to reboot

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.

I have also looked into BIOS and it shows boot options of USB CDROM, USB FDD, USB ZIP. Is there any other option that I have to select in the boot device option.

Hey Salis.

AFAIK, you would need a UTM Smart Installer to install using USB. This is a special USB stick used to install Sophos UTM into Sophos Appliances. But don't worry, you can still make your own USB stick. Follow http://networkguy.de/?p=728 and you should be fine. I've used this approach many times.

Hi,

Actually, I was following the same process to make bootable USB stick and upgrade the UTM. Previously, I had used a new USB stick and it did not work, however I tried the same with a very old USB stick and it ran smoothly and UTM is upgraded to version 9.
