I'm not aware of any passwd command, but there is a way to set a new WebAdmin password for the admin user:
cc passwd [mynewpassword]
After that, you can login to WebAdmin and set the shell passwords there.

i followed the Knowledebase Article which didnt work, i reported that problem here.
Your suggestion is OK as long as you have access to the root account, not when you use the recovery boot option according to the KB.

Hi, Ben.
Are you saying that you were able to get into single mode (init=/bin/bash at GRUB) but got an error stating that passwd command was not found after you gained access to the shell?
I tried to reproduce this in my lab, but I had no such issue.
Considering your statement that you have followed the KB instructions correctly, 1 by 1, I would definitely reimage that device, as something does not seem to be right with your system.
