Cold Spare

Hi, I'm looking for some help with using a cold spare SG330 firewall.  We have two, one of which is fully licensed and in production. 

What I'm looking at doing is connecting the spare to a different Internet connection and only powering it up in the event of a failure of the production firewall or Internet connection.  Will a backup from our production firewall restore to the standby with the 30 day demo license?  Thanks.

    The backup will work if the firmware version on both the devices are same or higher in the spare device.

    Hi, Chris, and welcome to the UTM Community!

    Why would you want to use a Cold Spare when it costs no more to have the second unit in Hot-Standby?  Why would you not connect the second ISP to the units in Hot-Standby so that you could benefit from Uplink Balancing?

    If your reseller doesn't have experienced installers, ask Sophos Sales for a recommendation of someone that can help you with the initial design of your configuration in WebAdmin.  Some experienced CCIEs may create good designs when installing their first UTM - I've not seen that yet though.
