ASG220 video conector pinout

Hi all,
I need to upgrade my 220 from V6 to V7, but online up2date does not work and the appliance will not boot from three different USB CDROM drives.

I have read that the boot priority might not be set properly.

Could someone please provide the video connector pinout so that I can access the bios setup?

thanks.
Ken.

  • This is an old 220, right?

  • Yes,
from about Sept 2005 if I recall correctly.

  • I'm working on finding that... I do keep an old video cable around for upgrading customers' systems, but I don't know the pinout... I think I've got an old manual around that has that in it.

In the meantime, have you tried both USB ports?  I have found that sometimes the drive will work when plugged into a different USB port.

  • Tried both ports, all drives.
    No joy.

I was hoping to borrow a cable from the local Astaro office, but they apparently moved to Boston...

    KM
  • Yeah, they used to ship (the cables) them with the appliance ... unfortunately a lot of people threw them away.  I'm not at the office (which is where my spare cable is at) ... I have noted, though, for instance that the pinout for a 320 is different from a 220, so it is specific to that model... I might be able to find out what the pinout is sometime today.  Another idea for you; if you have current maintenance on that 220, try starting a case with Astaro support; they may have one they can ship you (for free or a nominal fee).  I am off (well, I always end up working on something) this weekend, but if I run across the manual today with the pinout specs I'll post it.  I can get that info for you for sure in the next day or so when I'm in the office.

  • Well, I found the pinout specs... words of warning:
If you don't know what you're doing, you could short something out... and opening the case without Support's well, "support," could void your warranty... You may just want to contact support and get a proper cable... but, if you want, you can build your own... J15 on the board is the video connection.  See the attached .jpg for a pinout table.  As far as how they match up with the 15 pin VGA cable, see the other attached file.  I can't make any guarantees about you building your own cable... it's something I would only do if I had no other option. (for instance, I don't think you want to hook up that 5V pin... etc.)  I used to do a bit of hardware engineering in another life, and sometimes the smoke escapes the equipment no matter how hard you try to keep it in!

  • Bruce,
I built a cable and made one last call to Astaro to try and resolve.
(The cable was kinda ugly. I'd rather not take a chance)

They got back to me immediately and sent a replacement unit Fedex the next day.

Further research reveals that if you use an IDC header connector and IDC VGA connector with ribbon cable, it just snaps together.

Thank you for your help and the diagrams.

    Ken.
  • Good, glad to hear you got it worked out.
