Whatsapp not working on ISO

Hi,

I'm using Sophos UTM 9 Firewall, recently, I started receiving complaints from IOS users that they cannot use WhatsApp,

unlike Android users who can use it in a normal way. I tried everything but it didn't work.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?

kind regards

  • Are you using a proxy ? (Webfilter?)

  • yes i do, i have a firewall rule when i assign certain ports for services and WhatsApp sites and IPs as destination  it won't work but when i change it to "Any" for both services and Distention it works.

  • Then go to Network Protection, Live view and watch, which ports are blocked for that IOS devices, when not using „any“

  • source port is keeps changing, for distention its 5222 or 5223.

  • Hello,

I assume you are using Webfilter in transparent mode. This will grab ports 80 and 443, but not the rest which is needed for IOS to communicate with WhatsApp servers.

Could you try this instead of fw rule with "any"
First define Apple ports under "service definitions" like this:

Then define the rule under "Network Protection/Firewall"

Putting "Any" here as destination is for testing purposes only. I know you want to refine this, but let's do that later.

Please report back, if this is working.
