Before I give it go I would like to know the risk.As highlighted by JuergenBJuergenB if wifi doesn't get recognised and I want to revert it back to original UTM or XG software will it recognise the serial number or it will be lost forever?

Hi,

you need to wipe the hard disk inside your appliance. i used a ubuntu live DVD, a DBAN USB Stick would be fine.

The appliance installer verifies the hardware.

The serial and application model is inside in the bios. so it should be no problem to revert to UTM.

You could even use the appliance installer in a virtual box environment, but you won´t get any NIC´s or WiFi in a virtual box,

And with UTM you would get WiFi, but not with XG Home Edition, thats where Sophos neglect their promise to provide a home edition with the same features (no strings attached).

I am disappointed I wish I would have done this research before purchasing the SG hardware, but I am going re-image it back to UTM. I wil have to see what UTM has to offer. Thank you for your help.
