Astaro.org

Hi Everyone,

we've been planning a migration to a newer and more capable forum site for some time now, and were just a few weeks away from kicking off this process. Unfortunately, a recent vulnerability has appeared in the wild, affecting vBulletin, the software we were using for the astaro.org communities site. Astaro.org was not compromised from this vulnerability, but as a precaution, we did take the site down, to protect our users. 

The site used a number of add-ons, and some custom plugins, which would need weeks of effort to convert and replace, if we were to upgrade the site and apply fixes for this vulnerability. As we were planning to migrate by that time anyway, we've made the decision to cut immediately to the new communities site, which has been running successfully for other Sophos products. To that end, we've spun up two forums quickly, where astaro.org users can again congregate. unfortunately, it will still take some time to complete the migration, so user accounts, and previously posted content has not yet been migrated. This process will take a matter of weeks to complete. In the interim, we will create a static view of the astaro.org, so content there will still be accessible. This should be completed later today.

This certainly wasn't the introduction we wanted for our new communities site, but we are excited about the new platform, and its capabilities. Please be patient as we step through this transition as quickly as we can. There will be some pain, but we will try our best to minimize it for you.

  • I have been working for years with other vendor and Sophos too (Antivirus and Email Protection) and I never never found a great community as Astaro.org. I grew my UTM knowledge with other fantastic people during the years and get certified as Architect without a problem.
    What I would like to say is that the community Sophos used for Antivirus product is not the same as Astaro.org is (or was???).
    Other vendors do not have a community as Astaro was and this make a product very strong even if some features are missing. I have a discussion with another partner that was selling another vendor and I demostrated to him that Astaro was not as great as the other product in feature but community was doing a great job to help people in configuration and troubleshooting as no one.
    A product can become the best product (UTM was awarded several times this year) if a great support exist and developers follow and interact with followers.
    Just googling for a UTM configuration or problem and less than 2 minutes, astaro.org gave you the solution/fix.
    I feel the astaro.org more like a family where people born everyday and grandfather help them to walk through.
    We already have a big slap with Copernicus (at the moment) and now with community.
    As other guys said, you should put the astaro.org site in read-only mode (just for consulting years and years of old posts for new and for old members).
    I openend only once a ticket with Sophos support and they did not fix the issue. All other times I found a solution from astaro.org. Thanks to all of them!
    Now I can only imagine how people feel down and frustated.
    You did this without advising us but I think that it was a decision from management or from other high-level chief.
    I am here and others are here just because we love astaro and we feel like a family.
    We spend our time to respond and to be on community with no profit and you treat us in this way!!!!
    Really really sad and disconsolate!!
    The only thing we have at the moment is the hope!!!

    thanks for years of very good support in astaro.org, which often was quicker and better than support (with a partner).
    We just spend about 15.000€ for a new UTM incl. license for some years.
    What should we buy in future, when this support breaks?
    keep on.
