Problems resetting UTM root/loginuser passwords

I am trying to reset the root/loginuser password with direct access to the UTM.  I follow https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/115346 and the console states the passwords have been changed, however the passwords don't work. I tried simple passwords like ClosedDoor and that does not work either.

Is there a fix to this? I don't want to rebuild the firewall if I can avoid it.  I saw a post from one user that they had to try 4-5 times to get it to work but so far that has not worked for me.  HELP!

Thanks.

  • Do you then try to connect to webadmin or ssh?

Maybe please post an error screenshot.

  • Hi Justin and welcome to the UTM Community!

In addition to Alex' request, show us what you're doing to change the passwords - I know that document, and you probably won't get anyone to dig out what you did from it.

I just tried it on our lab UTM (V9.509) and it worked fine.
