Hi!
I am new to Sophos. I want to know is there any way to monitor some hosts (it could be just a ping), that are outside of your network.
The reason for it is that one of the clients has several servers in the cloud and firstly he wanted to do it via failover rules in wan link manager, so that he knows which of these servers is not reachable, but because Sophos doesn't have notification settings for that, I am curious if there is any way to monitor your hosts.
Thanks!
Hi RoAk ,
Many thanks for reaching out to Sophos Community and hope you are well.
Please see how you can monitor WAN Links through Failover rules via Ping Method: https://docs.sophos.com/nsg/sophos-firewall/19.0/Help/en-us/webhelp/onlinehelp/AdministratorHelp/Network/WANLinkManager/NetworkGatewayDetailsEdit/index.html#gateway-detail
There is also a Notifications that are enabled by default for Gateway Status you just need to enable email notifications to get alerts: docs.sophos.com/.../index.html
You can also monitor gateway status using SCFM: https://docs.sophos.com/central/customer/help/en-us/ManageYourProducts/Overview/Alerts/FirewallAlerts/index.html
Hope this information helps and Thank you for Choosing Sophos.

The problem is that I have two ISPs with their gateways and I am receiving notifications when one of them goes down, but my question is how can I monitor the cloud hosts, because I cannot add these hosts IPs as additional gateways, because then I need to assign additional IPs to WAN interface.
Also I have these hosts IPs in failover rules, but when one of them is unreachable I won't get notification, I only receive notification, when that WAN interface cannot ping addresses specified in failover rules.
Hello,
if my understanding is correct you want to monitor hosts you have hosted in the cloud and if this goes down the Sophos Firewall to let you know. If that is the case this isn’t possible with the Sophos Firewall, usually, you need 3rd party monitoring systems for this type of setup, like SNMP.
As per the Sophos Firewall, this would be a feature request.
you could use a free service like the one we are using since years: www.websiteuptime.de
I am a just a happy user of that service, no connection at all. It's free and just works.

Yes, that is exactly what I wanted. The main reason for it is that client who is working with these cloud servers, wanted to know if the problem is with ISP or with the servers (and if, which of them and get notification that this IP is down), because there was that kind of issue with our region reachability to that cloud.
Thank you for your precise answer.
Thank you for your response. I will check that out and let you know.
Vielen Dank im Voraus!
