VMware - Network Adapter Best Practise

Evening,

Just a quick question, has anyone tested changing the "Flexible" network adapter type to a fixed VMXNet3? Do we know if this is supported by Sophos?

I ask as we can't leverage DirectPath with flexible but it seems like SR-IOV/DirectPath are designed with heavy network workloads in mind, such as Sophos XG's.

Also, I might be being blind, but I can't see any best practice documentation anywhere? Just a simple mention of "deploy sf_virtual", it'd be interesting to get thoughts on Sophos' attitude to latency sensitivity settings, CPU & RAM reservations, DirectPath & SR-IOV as above.

I've got a few customers using Sophos XG for VoIP with multiple leased lines, bandwidth exceeding 1Gbps, I need to ensure we're minimizing any jitter or packet loss via poor VM implementation.

Thoughts anyone? :)

Thanks,

Michael
