Sophos Central Anti-Virus for Linux to Server Protection Migration Process

The Sophos Central Anti-Virus for Linux client is end of life July 2023. The replacement for this is the Server Protection client.

Can anyone point me to a document that describes the migration from one to the other?

Can we install the new client which will remove the old or do we have to uninstall Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux, reboot then install Server Protection?

Trying to understand the correct process as we have many servers to update and I'd like to get it right.

Many thanks!

  • I am very interested in Sophos Protection for Linux, but unfortunately I have a more serious problem than uninstalling the old version and installing the new one.

The operating system I use, Slackware, does not have systemd and Sophos Protection for Linux in its current version requires systemd.
What's worse is that Sophos is the only antivirus (apart from Clamav, which in its current form can only be used as a backup solution due to still unresolved issues and a limited database of virus signatures) that can be installed in Slackware (universal installation package not .rpm or .deb formats that do not work natively in Slackware).
In conclusion, if the possibility of installing without systemd is not added until July 2023, I will be out, although Sophos is the only antivirus I used for servers other than Romanian Antivirus (RAV) many, many years ago before it was bought by Microsoft and transformed into Microsoft Security Essential a.k.a. Windows Defender.
