Turn Windows features on or off

I'm a paying customer and I'd like to install/uninstall Windows features via "optionalfeatures".
Yet it seems to fail, so can you help out?

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run optionalfeatures (both with or without admin rights).
  2. Select or unselect a Windows feature (I tried Legacy Components=>DirectPlay but then completely other choices as well).
  3. Click OK.

Expected result:

  • A success message.

What happens instead:

  1. Sandboxie crashes with:
SBIE2205 Service not implemented: TrustedInstaller E06D7363
SBIE2205 Service not implemented: TrustedInstaller E06D7363
(yes, the same message twice in one pop up).
  2. I choose to close the error and then instead there's:
SBIE2205 Service not implemented: TrustedInstaller C000003A
  3. I choose to close the error and Windows features displays its own error that the feature installation failed due to:
The system cannot find the path specified.
    Error code: 0x80070003

Specs:

  1. Sandboxie v5.30 (default settings).
  2. Windows 10 x64 bit 1809.

  • Hi Lior,

You cannot install services or drivers inside Sandboxie. You'll need to make the changes outside Sandboxie.

    Regards,

  • In reply to Barb@Sophos:

But is a "feature" truly a service or driver and not just a software?

  • In reply to Lior W:

    Hi Lior,

Windows features typically involve drivers/services, but I am not sure about this particular one, as it is deprecated and I cannot find much info.
As a rule, Windows features/updates need to be modified outside Sandboxie. The purpose of running things inside Sbie is to isolate them. Features need OS access to properly install/work.

    Regards,
