Unable to launch the Enterprise Console

I am completely new to Sophos so please bear with me.

I am currently unable to launch the Enterprise Console. The information from the error is below.

The Management Host Service was set to log on with a Sophos service account that was setup by a previous tech and when I tried to restart the service if failed due to login issues. The previous tech did not share any information regarding this service account so no one knows what the password is.

Once I set the service to logon with the Local System Account I was able to successfully restart the service but I still get the same error. The following services are set to log on with the same service account.

SophosPatchEndpointCommunicator

SophosPatchOrchestratorService

SophosPatchServerCommunicator

Would changing the password on the service account have any affect on this? What impact would it have on the endpoint systems?

Sophos.UIController.Extension.UIControllerException: Cannot retrieve session token after 8 retries. Please check that the Sophos Management Host service is running, otherwise see KBA 118513.

  • Hi,

Have you tried re-running the setup.exe?

To install SEC you download a self extracting installer which by default unpacks to C:\secversion\.

So first thing would be to check in Program and Features what version of SEC you have installed, e.g. 5.4. Then check the root of your C drive for the install set. In there you can find setup.exe.  If you re-run that you can in effect reconfigure the install.

If you can't find it, you will need to download the installer to unpack the files.

You could check the bootrapper log for SEC under:

    C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Management Installer\

I'm sure this has the location setup.exe was run from.

    Regards,

    Jak
