  • Hi got the 9.5.4 update this morning, so far the backup I am running is still extremely slow.

Update, Ok its a little better, it only took 10 hours to complete instead of 3 days.

  • Mackbook Pro, with updates OS Sierra, and using Airport Time Machine........

    updated to new 9.5.4 antivirus.

Preparing backup take 15-20 minutes, and backups take forever.

additionally, I performed a backup, 1.2 gigs of data at noon today. I then performed another backup about 50 minutes later, and it's backing up 1.45g of data..... I did not use my macbook or perform downloads of that much data in that time. Very strange.

I once again disabled on-access scanning.

-edit- after disabling on-access scanning, time machine backing up as normal wirelessly. preparing for backup is shorter, and it backed up 50MB......... this test was done 20 after the previous scenarios.

  • Hi Gordon,

Thank you for the information. The issue is still present in 9.5.4 and we are currently working on it. Will communicate more once there is a fix. Apologies.

    Bob

  • I also have this issue on Sierra/9.5.4/remote backup.

I'm using an SMB target on a Synology NAS (not AFP) if that differentiation is helpful in debugging. The Synology is running 6.1 beta (which enables Bonjour time machine broadcasts for SMB shares), I updated to the beta hoping SMB would eliminate this problem I had with AFP -- no dice of course.

Please reply to post when there's an update. Thanks devs!
