Strange external keyboard connection

When i opened my laptop this morning, I got this prompt on my screen from the Sophos software installed on my laptop. "New USB keyboard connected. A new USB device with keyboard functionality has been connected. HID Keyboard device. Malicious USB devices may pose as a keyboard to install malicious software and enable an attacker to remotely take control of your computer. Click on block if you did not connect a keyboard to this computer or do not recognise this USB device"

I clicked on block

But now whenever I use my browser, all my key strokes are being encrypted. Is it possible to remove this strange keyboard that has or is trying to connect onto my laptop?

  • Am facing the same issue. Dont know if this if the keyboard encryption is a feature of Sophos or some other malware?

Hope someone can help soon on this!

  • Hi Joseph/Chirandeep,

Keystroke encryption is a feature of Sophos AV. In case you do not want to see the encryption visual, you can turn it off by logging into the Sophos Home Dashboard (I believe you use Sophos Home) > Protection > Exploits > Preferences and turn off Live Keystroke encry. in colored border.

Let me know if this helps resolve your query.

  • Same here, except I clicked block to the keyboard question. Now, my computer is a brick, because I can't type credentials at the logon screen.

This is critical, Sophos. I need a fix for this IMMEDIATELY. This is a HUGE bug.

  • Hi Jim,

Please help me with the following:

    1. Are you using a Laptop or a Desktop?

    2. What is the OS on your computer?

If it is Windows, at the login screen, you will see the ease of access button, click on that and enable On-Screen Keyboard. Then enter the password, log in to the machine and disable the feature from the dashboard.
