New Install of Management Center Won't Open

Installing SafeGuard Enterprise and the Management Center won't open. When I start the program, the following error is displayed:

“The database you’’’’re using does not match the current software version. Please update or migrate the database. The application will close now.”

Since it won't open, I have not yet gotten into the Management Center to run the first-time configuration to set the database, so I don't know what database this is looking at. Have I missed a step somewhere?

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi ectomac,

that really sounds someone already installed and configured your SafeGuard Enterprise Management Center and pointing to a Database that has not been updated to the latest version.

If you have not yet configured anything and are looking for the initial configuration wizard, as a quick fix, I'd recommend to check the following folder for any existing *.xml configuration files (the SGNDatabases.xml file holds the configured instance(s) that the Management Center tries to connect to during the logon):

    C:\Users\Username.Domain\AppData\Local\Utimaco\SafeGuard Enterprise\Configuration

With the Management Center closed, (re-)move all the xml files from the folder to a temporary location* and restart the Management Center again.

The Management Center should now present you with the initial configuration wizard.

*you may want to delete the configuration files if no longer required

    Cheers,

    Chris

  • Hi!

Same problem here after updating from 6.0 to 6.1, because I cannot figure out how to migrate the database without SQL Server Management Studio (which is not available (for SQLExpress?! Tried a download from MS called SQL Management Studio but after installing I only got some "Install Center")).

Had originally 5.6 installed with the SafeGuard Wizard (that installed a SQL Express), then updated to 6.0, which also caused no problems at all, but now our server is down.

Also tried the Best Practice suggestion "Run MigrateSGN..." with sqlcmd, that fails because of an "Unknown Option" error. Wrong syntax?

Also tried your suggestion deleting the xml files. Works fine so far, but doesn't renew my database ;-)

    Any other tricks updating/migrate it?

  • Solved from my side.

1st: Don't download the SQL Management Studio from MS (that will cause an installation error), just execute it from the download site or from the admin command shell.

2nd: Setting the database to "Single User Access" let the migration script fail because the database was still in use somehow (I stopped all services that seemed to be relevant, but obviously I didn't catch at least one). Running the query in "Multiuser Mode" worked properly.

So I am up to 6.1 now hoping that my troubleshoots may be useful for others too.
