Standalone Installer will not start encryption

I am attempting to use the Enterprise standalone installer to install Safeguard on a few laptops that I have that will not be able to touch the SGN Management server (at least at this time).  I ran the preinstall, x64 client, and then the standalone config created from the management console (utilizing the same policy group as managed clients that work and are already encrypted).  Everything seems to install normally.  I get the POA screen and all the other policies seem to work the same.  However, the disk encryption will not seem to start.  I've tried restarting a couple times, leaving it run overnight to see if it was just a time delay.  I get no encryption viewer dialog box, and SGNstate shows the disk as not encrypted.  When I right click the C: drive, it will not allow me to manually encrypt the drive (I believe due to policy).  Am I missing something? Do I have to force the encryption to start somehow?

Product: Safeguard Enterprise 7.02
Client: Dell Laptop with Windows 7 Pro x64

  • Hi TylerR01. Several things could be happening. As Windows 7 x64 Professional does not offer Bitlocker I am assuming you are using the SafeGuard encryption module. When you installed the SafeGuard client software did you choose the Volume based encryption module during the install. You can install SafeGuard without choosing an encryption method. The second thing could be that the policy is not setup correctly. I would suggest setting up a policy specifically for un-managed devices. This way you can eliminate any policy problems with the policy you are using for the other devices. Check and confirm that you have chosen Internal Storage or boot Volumes in the Device protection targets within the policy. Also confirm that the policy setting Reaction to unencrypted volumes is set to Accept all media and encrypt.
The installation order is Pre-install, SafeGuard Client and finally the Client configuration file.

  • I would be using the SafeGuard encryption module and I did have the volume based encryption module installed. I setup the same policies in a separate policy group specifically for unmanaged devices and created a new standalone config. I uninstalled the old one and reinstalled the new one, and it now works. I'm not sure what the issue was because the policies are exactly the same. Regardless, Thanks for your assistance in getting the issue resolved.
