Does DHCP Option 234 really work?

Hello,

I tried to point my AP10 to the UTM using this Article:
Using DHCP to get the IP of a Sophos Access Point

I even defined all 3 options: MagicIP, Finger and IRC-Server.
(So each one of these options should have the same effect? Is this sure?)

However my AP10 was not able to find the UTM.
The UTM is located in another subnet than the AP10, but the AP10 can reach it via the default gateway it receives from DHCP...

However when I enter the 1.2.3.4 host route into the router it finds the UTM.
I am using a Microsoft DHCP Server. Still I am unsure what I could have done possibly wrong in the configuration, so it does not work as expected....
Any hints? Is Option 234 defined as a single IP or an IP-Address List type? I tried both...

  • I think Sophos AP's always use the 1.2.3.4 route. Don't believe you can manipulate it with DHCP options, it's hard coded AFAIK.
