Will vouchers work with printers?

Would like to set up a total subscription model where each device would have to be approved.

Have found that a voucher can be made for 100000 hours to be effectively unlimited.

How would I handle printers that may not handle the popup voucher code.

I guess I could set up a custom wireless network for each client. But is there a limit on how many networks an AP can handle?
(I thought I read it was 4 but can no longer find this)

  • Not sure about the printer part of the question... maybe you can elaborate as to the issue?

The UTM currently supports 8 SSIDs total.

  • Bruce:

The application is a sub tenant, rather than give them their own wireless just give them a number of "unlimited" vouchers that they can use for their devices and limited vouchers for any of their guests. It would then be possible to remove individual devices without resetting the wireless security.

This should work fine for any device where you can enter the voucher code but a wireless printer may not have the ability to  do this. Setting the printer as allowed in the "Walled Garden" would make it available to the public.

Thus I guess the best answer is back to a dedicated wireless network for the tenant, and change the access code whenever they feel it necessary.

  • Now I understand ... you are correct, the voucher system depends on a browser and a human putting in the code.  When you were talking printers I thought you might mean having the UTM directly print out vouchers to a network printer (someone posted that on the feature request site).

  • Hi, iirc, there was another post about spoofing the printer's MAC with a laptop to get a long-life voucher.

However, if DHCP is giving the printer an address, and the only print clients are on the same lan/wifi lan, then maybe you don't need one?
