AP30 Tech Specs

Anyone know of any plans for an AP with a gig port?

Hardware Specifications:
•1 x 10/100 LAN interface
•Support of the 802.11 b/g/n standards
•Power over Ethernet (802.3af)
•3 x internal antennas
•Dimensions ø 120mm, 50mm
•Desktop/ceiling mounting

Astaro hasn't released any information about new AP revisions, but it's possible that they will.

My question is do you really need a gigabit port on an 802.11n capable WiFi AP?

Theoretical bandwidth is 300Mbps but the radio works in half Duplex so it's more like 150Mbps. Then factor in that in lab tests I've run on a cousin of the AP30 (Engenius EAP9550) suggest the maximum real world bandwidth under ideal conditions is actually closer to 80Mbps, which is right around 100Mbps Ethernet's own real world throughput.

Once you toss in multiple clients, real world radio conditions, mixed G & N clients, you can kiss your 100Mbps goodbye.[:)]

Drew, you hit the nail on the head... no need for a 1Gb/s port on a WAP with current technology.
