If you're comfortable with manually selecting the channel configuration that will always give you better results then the automatic selection.
In an environment with 5 APs that are (partly) in range of each other you'd most likely have the best results by using only channels 1, 6 and 11 and evenly distribute them on the APs. This should keep interference low. Also, some roaming clients (like cisco voip phones) can be configured to only scan specific channels while roaming which lowers the handover delay.
