Two APs. Some iPads stay connected to an AP, even as they move closer to the other AP.

Running UTM 9.707-5 with two APX740 access points. Less than 20 clients connected to each one.

I have a situation where an iPad will connect to one (say the West one) and even when it is moved directly under the East one, it stays connected to the West AP, even if connection strength drops to 15%. Reboot the iPad and it still connects to the West one.

Any idea why they become locked on an AP? Or how to fix?

(same SSID).

Thanks, James.

  • Only thing I can think of off-hand would be to make sure they are not dedicated to a specific frequency, 2.4 or 5Ghz.  They may be devices that can connect to one or the other depending on your setup.
