Different Filter Profile for Different User Groups Not Working

I'm trying to create a restrictive filter profile to apply to student's PCs but for the life of me I can't get it to work.

The student users have static IPs and are all in a "Student" user group.

I've created a new Web Filter Profile and added the Student User Network Group to the Allowed Networks.

;Under Policies I've added a Student policy with filter action "Student Filter".

When I run the Policy Test Tool for a student workstation/account, it shows the Student policy is applied but the Filter Profile is Default instead of Student.

What am I doing wrong?

Since this a different problem I started a new thread here: https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/f/58/t/77948

Well, I've found the problem but not sure how to fix it.

The "Student User Group Network" is not working in Allowed Networks for the Filter Profile. If I manually create individual Host definitions for the PC's and place those in Allowed Networks, it functions as expected.

So why does the Student User Group Network not contain IP's for those users? It obviously contains the correct users but no IP's are associated with them.

  • Is there some sort of authentication available? Active Directory?  Otherwise, how would the UTM know the users' IPs?

"... the Student policy is applied but the Filter Profile is Default instead of Student." - Perhaps you could insert some pictures as I don't uinderstand why you would also activate the Student policy in the Default Profile.
