Block Windows 10 Updates? -> dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/*

Is there any way to block Updates of Windows 10 Clients?

I see a lot of traffic to http://tlu.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/*

or http://dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/*

In the Log of the Webfilter I see:

device="1" auth="2" ua="Microsoft BITS/7.8" exceptions="" category="105" reputation="trusted" categoryname="Business" application="micrsoft" app-id="1151

ua="Microsoft-Delivery-Optimization/10.0" exceptions="av,auth,fileextension" category="105" reputation="trusted" categoryname="Business" application="micrsoft" app-id="1151"

How can I block such traffic? - This service consume a lot of traffic and kills my bandwith!!!

I think the problem is related to this:

  • Hi

    You can block the URLs tlu.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com and  dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com, or delivery.mp.microsoft.com including all subdomains in the Filter Action of the Web Filter Profiles. But in my opinion this is not the best solution because it don't solves the root cause.

    Maybe you will block also other downloads from Microsoft with this rule because we don't know for which other downloads this URL is used.

    So this is only a workaround after you or Microsoft solved the root cause.

  • This will not work because there is a general exception for ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?microsoft\.com/ (Windows Updates)

    So the Filter Action in Web Filter Profile will not work...

    regards
