I got Blizzard Battle.net to install update and patches with web filter enabled.

If anyone cares.  It finally started working when I added this exception to the webfilter....

^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?akamaihd\.net/

That may be heavy handed, but its working.  I also have the other normal exceptions for blizzard and battle.net.

  • To make the rule slightly more secure I used the following:

    Battle.net
Skipping: Authentication / Block by download size / Antivirus / Extension blocking / MIME type blocking / URL Filter / Content Removal / SSL scanning / Certificate trust check / Certificate date check

    Matching these URLs: ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?blizzard.com/
    ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?blzddist1-a.akamaihd.net

  • For me it was a bit different. I'm using the transparent proxy, but I still needed to add TCP-UDP/1119 to the allowed services list (the web addresses seem to have port 1119 in them now).

    My exception list is:

    ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?blizzard\.com/
    ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?blzddist1-a.akamaihd.net
    ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?battle.net

  • Looks like they added another server named blzddist2-a.akamaihd.net and the exception list needs to be modified.

    ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?blzddist2-a\.akamaihd\.net

Or you can combine the two for:

    ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?blzddist([1-2])*-a\.akamaihd\.net

Before I did this, my client would make a constant beeping sound as it downloaded, now it functions properly with no blocked messages in the live log.
