Block websites for a user gruop?

Hi, I'm new here. My name is Johan Gaponov and work in the government sector in Chile. I'm trying to block a specific group of users about websites without succeeding in this task, my question is, how I can do this? The firewall is Sophos UTM 9 ASG625.

  • Hi, Johan, and welcome to the UTM Community!

In which mode is Web Filtering configured - Transparent? Do you have Active Directory and are you also an administrator for that?

    Cheers - Bob
PS You might be interested in a document I maintain that I make available to members of the UTM Community, "Configure HTTP Proxy for a Network of Guests." If you would like me to send you this document, send me an email requesting it to my member name here @ the domain listed in my signature block - please include your member name here in your email as this offer is only for members.

  • Hi BAlfson,

The web filtering is configured in Transparent mode, we have two AD Windows Server 2012 and I've administrator account.
  • How large is the group you want to block? How large is the entire group? How many sites do you want to block?

    Cheers - Bob

  • Is a network group with 7 members (Hosts), and I want to block them 17 websites

  • The following assumes that you are using AD-SSO in Web Filtering...

In AD, create a new Security Group "The Doghouse" and assign to it the users to be blocked.  In the UTM, create a Backend Group named "Doghouse" based on the AD group "The Doghouse."  In 'Web Filtering Profiles', clone the Filter Action in use by everyone else, configure the clone to block the 14 websites and save it as "Doghouse Rules."  In the Profile in use by everyone else, create a new Policy at the top assigning "Doghouse Rules" to the "Doghouse" group and enable the Policy.

    Cheers - Bob

PS I really do have a client that came up with similar names! [H]
