We have a sophos sg450 on our institution. How can we block the orbit downloader because it's not in the application control? It consumes most of our bandwidth.
You will need to monitor your web filtering log and firewall log to determine all ports/protocols/web site connections that this application uses, then block via the firewall and web filtering filter actions.
If you have a spare ethernet port in the 450, you can make the process of gathering the information very easy by setting up a new interface/subnet for the port, then connect a basic client system to it (no superfluous software), then download, installm and run orbit downloader on this system. You can concurrently monitor via WebAdmin logs, TCPDump on the shell, and wireshark on the client to be certain your capture every connection the software makes.
