Microsoft Update failed

If this has been covered elsewhere, then so be it...

There are instances where Microsoft Update will "FAIL" if the uncategorised setting in web filter is set to the "Warn" setting. This can be verified by attempting an update (even manually) for Net framework 4.5.x updates. I have not researched why the UTM sees certain Microsoft downloads as uncategorised and others not, but it is the case.

If anyone is having a problem with Windows/Microsoft updates failing, and you have the uncategorised filter set to warn, then try setting it to allow. It worked for me.

I did not see another way around this. There currently is no way to set exceptions for warning on uncategorised in the UTM.

I believe I also noticed this phenomenon when a piece of software uses http://with ip address (https://111.111.111.111).

Later,
Jim

  • Jim, did you try the new 'Websites' tab that lets you override categorization?

Numeric IP addresses in software?  That does deserve to be blocked! [:D]
