Web Filtering is not blocking YouTube

Hi,
I need to block access to youtube website.
I've tried to add the following rule under  URL Filtering --> Additional URLs/sites to block:

^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?youtube\.com/

But seems not work..
Any suggestion?

Thank you

  • I would make sure you are hitting the Filter Action you think you are by looking at the logs.

In blacklist, generally using domains is better than using regular expressions.  If you are using 9.2 then block "youtube.com" and include subdomains.  If using regex that looks good but I would drop the final /

If using 9.2 you might be better by using the Websites list to change the category to something that you are otherwise blocking.  This will act globally.
  • Hi, Marco, and welcome to the User BB!

Whenever you have a question to post here, you can get more information by providing one or two log lines related to your issue.

    Cheers - Bob

  • I would suggest to use the Application Control feature to block Youtube. This way you don't have to care about the details what domains exactly need to get blocked to block Youtube.
